Newscorp says that ad supported services are on their way out
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/06/05/hulu_may_adopt_subscription_service/

I agree, news corp. But let me be the first to point out that you already sell your services by a subscription based service. Show us a little honesty here and start pulling all your ads off our subscription service (Cable, Satellite...) and then we might consider paying yet another subscription for your content. ;)

The funny thing was that just a week or two ago I was considering posting about how the much shortened commercial breaks of Hulu seem drastically more effective than the extended commercial breaks in standard TV. I actually watched the ads through most of the Hulu shows recently, whereas with 40+ second ads they're annoying enough for me to find the fast forward button.

Interesting - I haven't tried watching Hulu stuff, so I'll have to see if I have the same reaction.

I seem to remember it was an early selling point of cable TV that it didn't have ads, and then they snuck them all in.

(They were predominantly things for charities and for Goodwill though... Kind of odd that they had so few normal advertisers.)
